How 2024 Almost Broke Me—But Started My Healing Journey

2024 was, on paper, my most successful year ever.

I checked off so many career milestones:
✨ I finally worked in radio—a long-held dream.
✨ I led workshops for the THA and hosted masterclasses with the U.S. Embassy.
✨ I moderated panels for major organizations like the T&T Chamber of Commerce.
✨ I got featured on podcasts, appeared on TV, and travelled to Portugal, Amsterdam, and spent a month in the UK.

Everything looked amazing from the outside.

But behind the scenes?

I was quietly navigating the burnout so many Caribbean entrepreneurs experience but rarely talk about.

As a high-functioning depressive, I’d gotten really good at compartmentalising. I buried my emotions and used work to numb what I wasn’t ready to process. And that coping mechanism worked—until it didn’t.

The more I worked, the more disconnected I felt. I wasn’t sleeping well, I was overstimulated, and my joy had disappeared.

It forced me to face a hard truth: balancing career success and mental wellness isn’t something that happens automatically—it takes intention, boundaries, and constant self-check-ins.

And if you’re wondering how to know when you’re at that breaking point, I recently wrote about the signs of high-functioning depression [link to blog].

It’s a crucial read if you’re also trying to navigate mental health and entrepreneurship in Trinidad or anywhere in the Caribbean diaspora.

For the first time in five years, I gave myself space.

Now, I’m rebuilding.

I’m learning how to heal from creative burnout without losing the parts of my ambition that still serve me. And I’m doing it out loud, so you know you’re not alone if you’ve felt this too.

It felt unnatural at first. I had spent years convincing myself that if I wasn’t working, I wasn’t being productive. But with time and intention, I started reconnecting with myself.

🌀 I had room to think again.
🎨 I felt creative again.
🌱 I began asking real questions about how I want to live and serve.

This blog post doesn’t have a neat conclusion, because the truth is—I’m still in transition.

But I know now that my healing isn’t a detour—it’s part of the journey.

So what’s next?

More creativity. More balance. More intentionality.

You’ll still see me talk about digital strategy, entrepreneurship, and content marketing—but you’ll also see more behind the scenes. The personal stuff. The real stuff.

Because success should never cost you your peace.

And you are allowed to change direction—even in the middle of your story.
